Senator Trish Crossin today has sought to reassure parents that she is keeping a close eye on the developments over the ABC Learning Centre’s receivership and the impact it will have on Territory families.
The Federal Government has committed $22 million to keep the ABC Learning Centres open until 31st December 2008. This allows the receivers to go through an orderly transition phase, and work on a way forward for 2009.
“Child care is an essential service used by many families, with 15 ABC Learning Centres in the NT. The Government knows how important this service is, which is why we have established the Child Care Industry Taskforce, who is working closely with creditors as well as the Administrator and the Receiver to find a solution,” Senator Crossin said.
“The Federal Government has set up a dedicated information hotline for parents and employees, and the Government’s My Child website also has information about the centres as it comes to hand. This should be a parents first point of contact for information.
“I also encourage all parents of children in ABC Learning Centres to contact my office if they have concerns. I know how important child care is to Territory families, and will do my best to assist affected families,” Senator Crossin said.
The Federal Government has set up a dedicated information hotline on 180 2003 that provides basic information for parents and employees.
The Australian Government’s My Child website (www.mychild.gov.au) has information about the future of the ABC Learning Centres, and parents are able to sign up for email alerts as information becomes available.
